Women Plus Water

"My lived experience relates to having grown up in an under-resourced community in Los Angeles but noticing that despite this reality, drinking water was available all around me. In other communities around the world, including areas of Mexico where I am from, water is a scarce resource. I further took note of the vital role water plays in helping the body absorb important vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. This was especially important when I made a diet change centered around drinking water and the way it made me feel. I eventually enrolled in a graduate course that touched on water infrastructure and learned the fundamentals of water management and resources. I also learned how large corporations can have significant impacts on water consumption and resource levels. The emblem "water is life" was quickly embedded in me and I became particularly interested in knowing more about water issues and about the possibility that this could be the next great issue of our time."

Water Experience

I aim to be civically engaged to understand the role of BIPOC in water and how water challenges affect low-income communities of color. There are very few BIPOC folk in water and related industries.
