Water Experience
I chose to pursue an undergrad in Environmental Engineering as I loved to be close to nature and feel recharged by its sights. In 2006, I attended the World Water Forum in Mexico City and decided to be a water professional. That took me to Edmonton to complete my graduate studies at the University of Alberta. I reinforced the technical aspects of water and wastewater treatment and learned more about the natural assimilative processes of rivers and lakes. I learned to use different tools (mathematical models) and advanced samplers to understand and make decisions about surface water management.
As a water quality modeler working for the Province of Alberta, I used that knowledge to review and advise on the approval of discharges into the water bodies. I also applied the models for regional planning , such as to determine the phosphorus loading that can be assimilated by the Bow River. This project involved engaging key stakeholders.
In my current role at the City of Calgary, I lead technical assessments to plan for the infrastructure required to balance the urban pressures and watershed protection . I am working on projects that influence aquatic protection and source water protection.
