Luis Alejandro Morales Marin MSc, PhD, C Eng Researcher, Environment Canada, Canadian Meteorological Centre

Academic Background

Luis studied civil engineering at the Colombian School of Engineering before pursuing an MSc in water resources at the National University of Colombia in Bogata. Luis received a scholarship to pursue a PhD in physical geography at the University College London, UK, to work on sediment transport and hydrodynamics modelling in lakes at the Coastal and Estuarine Research Unit. He has worked for consulting companies in Colombia in the design and construction of hydraulic structures.

His research is focused in the study and modelling of complex phsyical processes associated with hydrology and hydrodynamics in lakes, rivers and estuaries. He is particularly interested in the study of hydrodynamics and its effects on erosion, transport, and deposition of sediments and nutrients in river catchments. Luis is currently working on water quality modelling in the South Saskatchewan River Basin using SPARROW models under the supervision of Dr. Karl-Erich Lindenschmidt and Prof. Howard Wheater.
