Maimai Field Day

Maimai Field Day is an event to celebrate 50 years of research at the Maimai experimental catchment and to encourage another 50 years of research by NZ scientists! It is intended for researchers, postgraduate students, consultants, and government scientists.

The event will be on Monday, February 20th at the Dawson Hotel and the Maimai experimental catchment at Reefton, South Island, New Zealand. Arrival and reception will be February 19th, and departure will be February 21st.

Led by Jeffrey McDonnell (University of Saskatchewan) and Uwe Morgenstern (GNS Science)

Special guest speakers: Drs. Mike Stewart (GNS Science) Brian McGlynn (Duke University), Chris Gabrielli (Selkermetrics Inc), Magali Nehemy (Trent University) and many others!

10:00 AM: Depart for field excursion to Maimai experimental catchment (15-minute drive)

In-field lectures and discussions:

  • Groundwater at Maimai (Chris Gabrielli and Uwe Morgenstern)
  • Gauging and met stations (John Payne and Brian McGlynn)
  • Isotope studies old and new (Mike Stewart and Magali Nehemy)
  • The Maimai trench (Ross Woods and Jeff McDonnell)
  • Early forestry studies (Lindsay Rowe, Barry Fahey, Jagath Enkanayke)

4:00 PM: Return to Reefton
6:30 PM: Group dinner at Dawson Hotel
