GIWS founding director, consultant, honoured for international diplomacy

Wheater, Peach informed on the water dispute between Chile and Bolivia

On April 21, in a ceremony at the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Santiago, Professor Howard Wheater, Canada Excellence Research Chair Laureate and founding Director of the Global Institute for Water Security, and Professor Denis Peach, former Chief Scientist of the British Geological Survey and consultant to GIWS, were awarded the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins with the rank of Commander “in recognition of their contribution to the Republic of Chile as scientific experts before the International Court of Justice, and the direction of the hydrological and hydrogeological studies of the Silala River system, as well as other transboundary water systems.” The Order is Chile’s highest civilian award to non-citizens.
