Jeffrey McDonnell, associate director of GIWS, has been elected to serve as the President of the Hydrology Section of the American Geophysical Union.
Jeffrey McDonnell, professor of hydrology in the School of Environment and Sustainability and associate director of the Global Institute for Water Security (GIWS), has been elected to serve as the President of the Hydrology Section of the American Geophysical Union (AGU). His term begins on January 1, 2015 and will last four years – two as the President-elect and two years as President.
“The American Geophysical Union is the leading learned society in the world for geosciences, and it is a great pleasure to congratulate Jeff on his election as president of the 7,000-strong hydrology section,” said Howard Wheater, Canada Excellence Research Chair in Water Security and the director, GIWS. “His election by the membership to this prestigious post is an indication of the esteem and regard in which he is held by the international community, and very good news for the international profile of the Global Institute for Water Security and the University of Saskatchewan.”
In his role as president, McDonnell will lead the 7,500 members of the hydrology section and coordination of the many standing committees within it. Jeff will chair the Fellows selection committee in 2015 and 2016 and work to promote excellence in the scientific study of hydrology and water resources.
“It is an exciting challenge,” said McDonnell. “I’ve been a member of AGU since 1987 and look forward to serving the AGU over the next four years.”
The American Geophysical Union is an international non-profit scientific association with more than 62,000 members that aims to advance discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity.
