The University of Saskatchewan and the Global Institute for Water Security will be on hand to celebrate recent research successes from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
GIWS member Christy Morrissey will be speaking on the funding that will see 57 U of S scientists receiving more than $9.2 million. Morrissey will also be giving a tour of the new Facility for Applied Avian Research, one of only two such facilities in Canada capable of advanced research on birds, as well as the only facility of its kind dedicated to the studies of avian wildlife ecotoxicology and medicine.
The event will also feature The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and U of S President Peter Stoicheff.
The NSERC funding, which was awarded to several GIWS researchers, will support projects ranging from water quality monitoring to flood forecasting.
Karl-Erich Lindenschmidt’s “Ice-jam flood forecasting and ice-jam flood risk assessment” and Saman Razavi’s “Development of a new framework for watershed systems analysis and modelling under climate and environmental changes” were both awarded grants covering a span of five years under the Discovery Grants Program.
Tim Jardine received a grant under Research Tools and Instruments for his project “Detecting hot spots and hot moments in river health by combining real-time water quality monitoring and citizen science.”
The event takes place on Wednesday, August 10, at 11:30 am at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
